Spring 2025

Project Duration: One Week

Project Type: Individual

About
I designed a skiing/snowboarding helmet to suite my classmate's needs and fit perfectly around her head. These types of helmets are often worn on the slopes to prevent injury but often are generalized designs that do not offer clients customizable features to fully suite their needs and desires. I incorporated four features, including increased ventilation, a mesh earpiece to allow an earbud to be inserted and stay intact, a hole to allow hair to be styled on the exterior of the helmet, and knob to adjust the tightness against one head.

Sketches
A few of my sketches I drew, considering the form and the various features I wanted to add to the helmet.
Process
Below is a slideshow displaying my process behind creating this design.
Reflection
I appreciate I was able to have the opportunity to use a 3D scan and design a perfectly fit product around the scan. Throughout this process, I learned 3D scanning can be limiting with the details it captures. Drawing a product to fit someone perfectly can be difficult and it can be hard to incorporate small details into sketches or 3D modeling. In addition, 3D modeling my helmet design on SolidWorks and Fusion was challenging. Although I did not have the opportunity to fully figure out how to 3D model my product within a week, I aim to continue to work towards 3D model my helmet design in the future.
