About
Before starting this role, I never realized how much thought and planning goes into designing signage at The Ohio State University. From building directories that help students navigate campus on their first day of class, to donor signs that recognize individuals who have made lasting contributions to the university.
This past summer, I began working as a Graphic Design Student Assistant for the University Signage and the Sign Shop at The Ohio State University Office of Administration and Planning | FOD Design and Construction.Through this opportunity, I have the chance to:
- Assist in the design of university signage, wayfinding systems, and other visual materials.
- Maintain graphic standards and create custom signage for university projects.
- Collaborate with university departments, project managers, and vendors to support project execution.
- Utilize Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office to assist with design and administrative tasks.
Campbell Hall
Recently, I designed the building and floor directories, following university standards while highlighting the resources and departments within the building. After finalizing the graphics with the client, I assisted in sending the files to our on campus print shop for production. The most rewarding part of this project was helping with the installation of the graphics I designed.
Reflection
I have had the opportunity to create a variety of campus signage beyond the examples shown above, including interior and exterior signs, donor lettering, ADA signage, building maps, and much more. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to make a meaningful impact at The Ohio State University, and I look forward to taking on new challenges while continuing to grow as a designer!
